Gordon Cross

Gordon CrossArtist & Principal Designer

In 2015, Gordy expanded his artistic side by renting a shop in Truckee to start dabbling in welding and art. He found a niche with making custom, one-of-a-kind, light fixtures and colorful, backlit art-boxes. He then further expanded into furniture pieces using historic, reclaimed wood to build unique benches and tables.

His experience and skill with designing custom homes has given him an elevated understanding of form and scale, which he brings to his art and furniture pieces to generate a sense of balance and harmony to the space.

Gordy joined the Truckee Roundhouse Maker’s Space community to broaden his skills and network with other local artists.

His creative beginnings in design started in residential home design in the early 90’s while living in Breckenridge, Colorado. His early experience working in the high-country gave him a vast understanding of structural-oriented design; designing unique and innovative homes that don’t break the bank to build. He took that knowledge with him when he moved to Tahoe in late 1994 where he worked with several architectural firms in the area before starting and growing his own business Lake Tahoe Designs in 1997.

From 2003-2009, Gordy earned hands-on experience with “Green” living when he and his wife moved just north of Truckee to a remote log cabin in the Sierra’s. The home was completely off-grid and required a 10-mile snowmobile ride to access in the winter. During this time, Gordy amassed a varied knowledge of living and building “Green”; he installed and maintained of a full-house solar power system, tapped off a ground spring for fresh spring water to supply the house for all its water needs, and built several green houses that grew an abundance of vegetables and herbs.

Gordy’s talented and creative design portfolio includes over 200 homes in the Tahoe-Truckee area, as well as an expanse of remodels, additions, and interior design. He has also worked on numerous commercial projects in the area, including the historic Star Hotel. Plus, his portfolio has taken him across the country with projects in Colorado, Idaho, Minnesota and Pennsylvania.

Gordy takes great pride in working closely with his clients to establish their needs and desires while also taking into account their financial plan and budget. He values building relationships throughout the whole design and building process and his passion and attention to the smallest details has earned him volumes of referrals and return clients.
